Lesson Plan:

KLA: English Stage: 3 Year: 5

Summary: Students have just returned from a three day school camp, therefore this is a great opportunity for students to compose and write their own personal factual recount. By posting their recounts onto a class blog, enables students to also have an opportunity to read and get an insight of other students’ experiences from camp.  The teacher has already created the blog where the students are to publish their final recount. The blog already includes key photos from the school camp to

 Syllabus outcomes:

Producing Texts (WS3.9)
Produces a wide range of well-structured and well-presented literary and factual texts for a wide variety of purposes and audiences using increasingly challenging topics, ideas, issues and written language features.

Learning to Write (WS3.12)

Produces texts in a fluent and legible style and uses computer technology to present these effectively in a variety of ways.

Lesson Sequence :

Introduction:

–       T to introduce the topic of the lesson: writing a personal, factual recount. A recount retells past events or experiences and sequences events in the order that it happened.

–       T to ask Ss to explain what a recount is – whole class discussion exercise. T to provide definition, examples, structure and purpose on IWB.

 Development:

–       As a class create a recount scaffold on IWB.

–       T to login into already created blog to show students images from school camp, to remind them of key moments and specific events that occurred at camp.

–       Students to individually write their own recount about camp – with a minimum of three incidents/moments/events

–       Students are to edit their final draft using their knowledge of sentence structure, grammar and punctuation to edit own writing.

–       Then Ss are to publish their work on the class blog dedicated to the school camp.

 Conclusion:

–       Students browse the blog to read, share and provide comments and feedback to other students’ posts.
